Here’s a link as a reminder about this Tuesday’s upcoming Bach at Noon, including Bach’s B-Minor Flute Suite and Cantata 150. I’ve added a YouTube of the New Yorker’s classical music critic discussing the use of repeated bass lines throughout music history (from Monteverdi to Bach to Skip James to the Beatles!). Cantata 150’s last movement includes one such compositional technique, and later served as inspiration for Brahms in the composition of his 4th Symphony.
