REFLECTIONS, DISCUSSIONS, AND EXPERIENCES TO ENRICH THE LIVES OF LEHIGH VALLEY TEENS

Announcing a collaboration between The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Allentown Symphony Orchestra, offering a community youth engagement program that culminates in free attendance to concerts featuring emerging artists as well as world-renowned artists Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott.

These concerts will serve as catalyst to invite teens to discuss what inspires them and to prompt conversations about the relevance of cultural activities in their future.

Students will attend  three virtual sessions, with the opportunity to attend cultural events in our community.

Session 1: Musical Roots: Reflections of Early Childhood

  • Fifty students representing 18 area schools met on Zoom and shared how they started their artistic path and the concept of “Artist as Citizen.”   Below are a two of the responses this exercise evoked from them, as individuals and as a group.

Leila led students through a deep listening meditation. Students then collectively shared what they heard, represented in the graphic below:

Deep Listening Poem:  Students selected their favorite words/phrases from the collective sounds they heard. In groups of 4-5, students then created poems using their favorite words and phrases. Below is one example:
