This concert honors and remembers the former conductors and members of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Bach festival orchestra since its beginning in 1898. their memory and legacy remain with us and continue to inspire us. The concert is supported in part by an endowment gift from Anthony R. Thompson and Vickie Ziegler Thompson.
For our closing concert of the 2021 Bethlehem Bach Festival, members of The Choir and Bach Festival Orchestra joined by featured soloists, present a program of four complete Bach Cantatas and a duet from Cantata 80. This concert will be live-streamed from the beautiful sanctuary of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allentown, our summer home for “Bach at Noon” concerts.
Announced soloists: Sherezade Panthaki, soprano, Meg Bragle, mezzo-soprano,
Lawrence Jones, tenor and Dashon Burton, bass-baritone.
Artistic Director and Conductor Greg Funfgeld carefully chose these particular Cantatas, as Bach later took movements from these works when he was assembling his MASS in B MINOR at the end of his life:
Cantata 120 Gott, man lobet dich in der Stille
Cantata 171 Gott, wie dein Name, so ist auch dein Ruhm
Cantata 12 Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen
Duet from Cantata 80 Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott
