Elijah Buzz

The Choir had a stellar rehearsal (the first hour flew by so quickly!) last night, and we’re gearing up for two orchestral rehearsals on Thursday and Friday, then the beginning of the performances on Saturday.  We’ve attempted something of a media blitz in advance of the performances to get the word out, and I have some links to follow.  Steve Siegel penned an excellent (as usual) preview in the Morning Call.  I greatly admire Steve’s work – his previews and reviews always combine erudition with a genuine sense of wonder and  discovery in discussing the wealth of music presented in the Lehigh Valley.  Greg Funfgeld traveled to Washington, DC, last week, to record this wonderful conversation with Deborah Lamberton (small world, she’s the aunt of one of our former tenors, Ben Lamberton) at WETA, the capital area’s classical radio station.  Wally Vinovskis, WDIY’s brilliant and intrepid classical music coordinator and I  sat down for an hour’s conversation and preview of Elijah (with copious musical samples) the Friday before last.  I also had another conversation with WVIA’s wonderfully ebullient Erika Funke yesterday afternoon, and that will be broadcast tomorrow morning (March 6th) at 11 am. You may stream it live here.   The conversation will be archived and I’ll post a link once that happens.  There’s a lot of energy and excitement surrounding these concerts – I sincerely hope everyone can attend one of the performances.  Performances of Elijah are something of a rarity – and I think this series of performances will definitely be for the ages.  There will be over 150 musicians on the respective stages – and we’ll combine for powerful performances of this wonderful music.  Stay tuned for more updates as we begin our work in preparing with our fantastic orchestra.

PS.  If we didn’t seem busy enough, our wonderful Bach to School educational outreach program reached an important milestone last week: 100,000 students have seen members of the Choir and Orchestra in performance in their schools.  An article, video, and gallery from the Morning Call are available here.
