The Choir enters a very busy week, beginning on Monday evening in an extended rehearsal with masterclasses by two of our favorite soloists: Rosa Lamoreaux and Bill Sharp, both of whom will be featured in this Tuesday’s Bach at Noon. Rosa will be working with the women of the choir, and Bill with the men. These masterclasses will afford choir members the opportunity to work with two exceptional singers and master-teachers, made possible by a gift for choir development by the Fairbairn family. We will be working on repertoire for our upcoming Christmas Concerts, about which I shall be writing soon.
On Tuesday, we’ll share in the November Bach at Noon: a performance of the six Schübler Chorales and the much-beloved Cantata No. 140. More about that concert can be found here.
Finally, we’re eagerly counting down to the Gala Tiempo Libre: Bach in Havana Concert at the Zoellner Arts Center on Saturday evening. There are still plenty of seats available – it promises to be a fantastic evening of tropical Bach. A great interview with Jorge Gomez, the musical director of the band, was featured in the Morning Call this weekend and may be found here. I plan on posting updates and pictures from all of these events here on the blog, so stay tuned, and please join us for the concerts – we’re looking forward to a lot of great music-making this week!
Update – 11/9/10: We had a wonderful evening in our rehearsal/masterclass with Bill Sharp and Rosa Lamoreaux, and a capacity audience at Bach at Noon this afternoon. Visitors from the Nitschmann Middle School huddled around the organ console as Greg and Tom played the Schübler Chorales, and everyone present joined in ecstatic singing of the chorale that concludes Cantata No. 140. Many thanks to all who attended – we hope to see you at the Tiempo Libre concert!
Update – 11/16/10: 713 individuals from the Valley and beyond attended an absolutely fabulous concert this past Saturday night. I have to confess, I wasn’t entirely sure what we’d be in for – this was my first timba concert, but I was delighted to find all my expectations surpassed, and if the ecstatic cheers of audience are any indication, I imagine that was true for many. Thank you to so many individuals and entities for putting this event together: from the board members and community leaders who helped to plan it, to our wonderful office staff who coordinated many factions with elan and grace, to the benefactors and patrons (both at the individual and corporate levels) without whose support the evening wouldn’t have been possible, to the enthusiastic audience, to our hosts at Lehigh and Zoellner, and finally, to Tiempo Libre for the gift of their extremely high-energy and highly musical performance.
