“Bach to School” Goes Virtual!
Because of the in-person attendance restrictions in many school districts, we’ve been unable to offer our award-winning “Bach to School” program to students in our area this season. We present this to every third and fifth grade student in the Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton School Districts annually, with additional grades and schools added to the schedule each season.
We’re addressing these restrictions and the needs of parents and children at home during the pandemic in the most innovative way possible: by creating a video presentation that teachers, parents, and students can access online and share virtually, along with activities that students can participate in relating to the video.
“Bach, Bikes & Basketball” – what’s it all about??
Students – including our guests from Community Bike Works – will get a lively introduction to the life of J.S. Bach, including his boyhood and his musical career, and learn how his music has influenced composers, musicians, and dancers even to this day, including precious archival footage from previous Family Concerts, including an amazing “Basketball Jig!”
Hosted and narrated by Greg Funfgeld, the video also offers lessons and conversation from soloists and instrumentalists, including frequent guest soloist, Dashon Burton, and a Cantata from members of our Bel Canto Youth Chorus Concert Choir, and student composers who participated in our Chaconne project. Greg and the musicians interact with students, and share their own insights about the genius of Bach’s music.
Greg is looking forward to the public premiere! “Since in-person concerts are not possible, this film will offer an introduction to Bach, his life, and amazing music – featuring members of The Bach Festival Orchestra, archival recordings from earlier Bach to School and Family Concerts, and some new and innovative offerings that we hope will engage the minds of all who view it.”
FREE ACTIVITY BOOK! Students will have fun with the games, puzzles and coloring pages in our printable Activity Book! A great addition to the film to make learning about J.S. Bach fun!
And while technology makes this convenient and accessible for many, this production – like all our virtual concerts – is an expense for the Choir.
Contributions of any amount will help us offset the costs of our educational outreach programs, including “Bach to School.” We hope we can count on your support as we continue to produce our music virtually for your enjoyment.
