Christmas Oratorio, Parts 4, 5, and 6 (Bethlehem Concert)
December 11, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Event Navigation
Written in 1723 and 1724 and first performed in its entirety in the Christmas season of 1734-1735, Bach composed his Christmas Oratorio while living in Leipzig. Almost 300 years later, we’ll present Parts 4, 5 and 6 to complete the Oratorio we began at last year’s Christmas concerts.
Join us in person (or virtually) to continue our journey through the joyous Nativity story, as The Choir and soloists tell the story of the Epiphany and the visit of the three kings, in powerful arias and tender chorales. As part of a beloved tradition, we invite the audience to join The Choir in singing traditional carols at the conclusion of the concert.
Soloists:
Nola Richardson, soprano
Janna Critz, mezzo-soprano
Lawrence Jones, tenor
David Newman, baritone
Special appearance by Bel Canto Concert Choir:
Building on the highly successful Chaconne Project heard at the 2022 Bach Festival Ifor Jones Chamber Music Concerts, the Bel Canto Concert Choir will present their own newly-composed variations on the Bach chorale, “Ich steh’ an deiner Krippen hier” (“I stand beside Thy cradle here”), the final chorale in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
