DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: Because of COVID-19\, we did not hold the biannual Young American Singers Competition\, scheduled for our 2020 Bethlehem Bach Festival. The rescheduled date is Sunday\, November 14 here in Bethlehem. Please see below for further details!   \nThe Bach Choir of Bethlehem and The American Bach Society announce the eleventh biennial competition for American singers with special interest in the music of J. S. Bach.\nRecent Winners include: Gabriela Estephani Solis\, 2018\, Nola Richardson and Christopher Edwards\, 2016\, Janna Critz\, 2014\, Dashon Burton\, 2012. \nDATE:  Sunday\, November 14\, 2021 \nTIME: 12:30 pm \nPLACE: The Luckenbach Mill\, 459 Old York Road\,  Bethlehem\, PA 18018\nThe Luckenbach Mill is located in the Colonial Industrial Quarter in Bethlehem. \nFinalists will perform arias from many of Bach’s most beloved compositions\, including the Saint Matthew Passion\, Mass in B Minor\, and Saint John Passion\nJoin us to hear these superb young vocalists\, including: \nSoprano: Hannah de Priest\, Amy Broadbent\nMezzo-soprano: Sylvia Lieth\nCountertenor: Matheus Coura\nTenor: Matthew Hill\nBaritone: Edward Vogel\, Elijah Blaisdell\,\nChristopher Talbot\, Michael Hewitt \nWith some 50 applicants\, 10 finalists will perform before a live audience and a panel of judges\, including internationally renowned soloists: soprano Kendra Colton\, bass-baritone David Newman\, soprano and Bach Choir Vocal Coach Rosa Lamoreaux; Bach Scholar and faculty member at Emory University\, Stephen Crist\, and Greg Funfgeld\, The Bach Choir’s Artistic Director and Conductor. \nFinalists will be accompanied by Bach Choir rehearsal accompanist Thomas Goeman\, each performing two Bach arias. The First Prize winner chosen by the judges will receive a career development grant of $3\,000 and a solo performing opportunity with The Bach Choir of Bethlehem in a future season. \nIn addition to the first prize\, up to three additional cash awards of $500 may be awarded to other finalists\, at the judges’ discretion. \nThis is a free event with no tickets required.  Bach Choir COVID protocol applies to everyone in attendance. \nAbout the Bach Choir of Bethlehem \nThe roots of The Bach Choir of Bethlehem\, the oldest Bach Choir in America\, go back to Colonial times and to the Moravians who settled Bethlehem in 1712. The Choir was founded in 1898 by its first conductor John Frederick Wolle\, an organist at Central Moravian Church\, and gave the first complete performances in America of the Mass in B Minor (1900) and Christmas Oratorio (1901). Since its founding in 1898\, The Choir has been attracting thousands of visitors to the annual Bethlehem Bach Festival\, now held on the campus of Lehigh University. \n  \nShare This:
