SAINT JOHN PASSION

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem is proud to announce their most recent recording, Bach’s Saint John Passion – released just in time for Lenten remembrances. This masterwork of the choral repertoire received its first complete American performance in Bethlehem, PA in 1888. This work is both an intimate and sublime meditation and a powerfully transcendent composition.

Artistic Director and Conductor Greg Funfgeld leads The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Bach Festival Orchestra with acclaimed soloists, Charles Daniels, tenor (Evangelist); William Sharp, baritone (Jesus); David Newman, (Pilatus); Julia Doyle, soprano; Daniel Taylor, countertenor; Benjamin Butterfield, tenor; and Christòpheren Nomura, bass-baritone.

The texts of Songs of Hope are moving affirmations of hope in the face of adversity. In the hands of composers Bach, Britten, Bernstein, and Paulus, these amazing words resonate with the longing for peace and healing in our own time. Released in October, 2011, Songs of Hope is The Choir’s second recording on the ANALEKTA label. Under the direction of Greg Funfgeld, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem is joined by members of The Bach Festival Orchestra as well as world-renowned soloists.

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem is delighted to announce the October 2009 release of its first recording on the ANALEKTA label. The new CD was recorded in May 2009 and features three famous and festive works written for Advent and Christmas: Bach's Magnificat in D Major BWV 243 and Cantata BWV 191- Gloria in excelsis Deo, and Vivaldi's Gloria in D Major, RV 589. As Dr. Robin Leaver says in his notes for the recording, it could have been entitled "Glorious Glorias!" Joining the Bach Choir and Bach Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Greg Funfgeld, are world-renowned soloists.

Mr. Bach Comes To Call is a dramatic musical story for all ages based on the award-winning Classical Kids CD. Produced by The Bach Choir of Bethlehem in collaboration with Touchstone Theatre and GreenTreks Network, the film will be distributed internationally by the Childrens’ Group.

This live action movie is pure family entertainment. Based on on historical fact, it features more than twenty excerpts of Bach’s best-loved works beautifully performed by The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Bach Festival Orchestra.
